Big Star is back! They are at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple on November 18th. I fell in love with Big Star’s first 3 albums a couple of years ago after hearing Elliott Smith sing a a version of their beautiful song, Thirteen. I’ve also heard Wilco cover it.
Those 3 albums are called:
#1 Record (1972), Radio City (1974), Third/Sister Lovers (1975)
Never heard of Big Star? Well, the opening theme to That 70’s Show is their song. But it’s not their best and it’s performed by Cheap Trick.
Also the Replacements have a song dedicated to the singer of Big Star, called Alex Chilton!
They are super melodic, and have songs that I wish I wrote.
Only bummer is that one of the song writers and singers from the original lineup, Chris Bell, died in a car accident in 1978 so he won’t be at the Brooklyn show.
